Lip lines

Lip lines, also known as ‘lipstick lines’, are the result of collagen and elastin loss from the skin around the mouth.
These lines vertical lines can appear around the mouth and develop across the top of the lip towards the nose. Lip lines are a common and natural sign of ageing, however, they can also be promoted through sun exposure. Sensitive skin exposed to harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause premature ageing; this process is also known as ‘photo-ageing’.
Lip lines can alternatively be caused by smoking, hence some people referring to them as ‘smoker’s lines’. When one smokes, free radical cells are created in the body which stimulate the ageing process. Smoker’s lines can also be caused by the repetitive ‘drag’ motion in which the lips are pursed.
